Pune: Income Tax Dept to Hold Mega Awareness Event on Income-tax Act, 2025
Pune, 13th May 2026: The office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr-CCIT), Pune, will organise a mega outreach event on May 15 under the banner “PRARAMBH 2026” to create awareness about the provisions of the new Income-tax Act, 2025, which came into force on April 1 this year.
The event, to be held in Pune, is part of a nationwide campaign launched by the Union finance ministry on March 20 to familiarise taxpayers, professionals and industry stakeholders with the new tax regime and its implementation.
Addressing a press conference at Income Tax Office on Tuesday, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Vivek Wadekar said the programme aims to facilitate discussions and stakeholder engagement on the structure, provisions and practical implications of the new legislation.
Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni will attend the event as chief guest, while industrialist Lila Poonawalla and entrepreneur Pradeep Bhargava will be the guests of honour.
The programme will be held at 10.30 am on Friday at the auditorium of Cosmos Tower on University Road in Shivajinagar. Senior Income Tax Department officials, chartered accountants, legal professionals and representatives from academic and industry bodies are expected to participate.

According to officials, the Income-tax Act, 2025 marks a major restructuring of the country’s direct tax framework with an emphasis on simplification and easier compliance. Wadekar said the new law seeks to reduce complexity, minimise litigation and improve ease of doing business.
He said the number of sections in the law has been reduced from 819 to 536, while the number of chapters has been brought down from 47 to 23. Similarly, the Income Tax Rules have been rationalised from 511 rules and 399 forms to 333 rules and 190 forms.
Wadekar said the language and structure of the law had been simplified to make it easier for ordinary taxpayers to understand.
As part of the department’s taxpayer outreach initiatives, officials said tools such as AI-enabled chatbot “Kar Saathi”, reference guide “Kar Setu” and stakeholder interaction sessions under “Samvaad” have also been introduced to assist taxpayers during the transition to the new regime.
The department said the initiative reflects its focus on transparency, informed compliance and smoother implementation of the new tax law.
