Pune, 16th May 2026: Amid growing discussions around fuel conservation and austerity measures, Baramati Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule on Friday appealed to the government to withdraw the police security cover and official vehicles provided to her, citing the ongoing economic and energy challenges facing the country.

In a post on X, Sule said India was currently facing a “serious economic and energy crisis” and stressed the need for careful use of fuel and other resources.

Against this backdrop, she requested the government to immediately withdraw the police deployment and vehicles assigned for her security.

“It is my humble request to the government that the police security arrangement and vehicles provided for my protection be withdrawn immediately,” she said in her post.

She further stated that the government could review the situation and consider restoring the security arrangement in future if absolutely necessary after the prevailing economic and energy situation improves.

The statement comes at a time when both the Centre and the Maharashtra government have been advocating fuel conservation and reduction in official expenditure. In recent days, several public representatives and government officials have also announced measures aimed at promoting austerity, including reducing convoy sizes and encouraging the use of bicycles and public transport.
