Fire Breaks Out in AC Coach of Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express; No Casualties Reported

Ratlam, 17th May 2026: A fire broke out in the B-1 AC coach of Train No. 12431 Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express in the early hours of Sunday between Luni Richha and Vikramgarh Alot stations in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district, railway officials said.

According to the Kota Division of West Central Railway, the incident was reported at around 5:15 am in the NAD–Kota section near kilometre markers 729/02 and 728/14-16 on the down line.

Railway authorities said all passengers traveling in the affected coach were safely evacuated immediately after the fire was detected. No injuries or casualties were reported among passengers or railway staff.

Harshit Srivastava, Chief Public Relations Officer of West Central Railway, said the overhead electric (OHE) supply was cut off promptly after the incident. The affected B-1 coach, located near the SLR end of the train, was detached from the rake as railway staff and officials launched fire-fighting operations at the site.

Passengers from the affected coach were provided refreshments during the disruption, officials said. Railway authorities also announced that an additional coach would be attached at Kota station to facilitate onward travel for passengers.

Senior railway officials from Kota rushed to the site to monitor rescue and restoration operations. Authorities stated that the situation was brought under control.

After necessary safety procedures and operational clearance, the Rajdhani Express resumed its journey from the site at 9:48 am with a diesel locomotive towards Vikramgarh Alot.

Railway officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
