Drunk Tempo Driver Crashes Into Divider Near Handewadi Chowk, Raises Concerns Over Frequent Night Accidents

Handewadi, 19th May 2026: A major road accident occurred near Handewadi Chowk around 11:15 pm after a goods tempo crashed into a road divider, causing severe damage to the vehicle and temporary traffic congestion in the area.
According to traffic police officials and local eyewitnesses, the tempo driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The driver, reportedly from Khadki, was returning home after completing a delivery when he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the divider.
Fortunately, no casualties or serious injuries were reported despite the strong impact. However, the front portion of the tempo was badly damaged in the collision.
Police and traffic personnel quickly reached the spot and managed the situation by clearing the damaged vehicle and regulating traffic movement. Traffic near Handewadi Chowk remained slow for some time before returning to normal.
An eyewitness said:
“I heard a loud crash and rushed towards the spot. The tempo had hit the divider very badly. People immediately gathered to help, and thankfully no one was seriously injured. Police officers reached the scene quickly and managed the traffic situation properly.”
Local residents also expressed concern over the rising number of accidents on the Undri–Handewadi Chowk stretch. According to residents, accidents involving heavy vehicles and small tempos frequently occur in the area, especially during late-night hours, due to traffic congestion, rash driving, and alleged drunk driving cases.
Residents said the increasing number of night-time accidents has become a serious concern and demanded stricter traffic monitoring and improved road safety measures in the area.
