Pune: Death Threat to Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Through Police Helpline, Accused Detained and Counselled
Pimpri Chinchwad, 20th May 2026: A man was detained by the Pimpri Chinchwad Police after allegedly issuing a death threat to Ravi Landge through the police department’s “Samadhan Helpline”, triggering concern within civic and police circles.
Police identified the caller as Ashish Jamdade-Patil. Officials said he had met the mayor on two occasions a few months ago in connection with sports-related work. However, police said they were alerted after he allegedly made a direct threat to kill the mayor during the phone call.
Following the complaint, teams from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police traced and detained the accused for questioning.
During the inquiry conducted by the Bhosari Police Station, police found that the man was allegedly under mental stress, according to preliminary findings. Mayor Ravi Landge later said the individual was counselled and released after being warned by police.
The incident has raised concerns over the security of elected representatives in the city. Police said they have taken serious note of the matter and further investigation is underway.
