CBI Detains Paediatrician Over Alleged Purchase of NEET Paper for Son
Pune, 22nd May 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained a paediatrician from Latur in connection with the alleged NEET examination paper leak case.
The accused, Dr Manoj Shirure, was brought to Pune by a CBI team on Thursday for questioning at the agency’s office. According to sources, he was later taken into custody after prolonged interrogation.
Investigators suspect that Dr Shirure allegedly purchased the NEET question paper from private coaching class director Shivraj Motegaonkar for his son. The agency is also probing possible financial transactions linked to the alleged deal.
The NEET paper leak investigation has expanded across Maharashtra and other states. Earlier, the CBI had arrested several accused in the case, including chemistry professor P. V. Kulkarni from Latur, professors Manisha Mandhare and Manisha Waghmare from Modern College in Pune, and Shubham Khairnar from Nashik.

A special court has remanded six accused — including Khairnar, Dhananjay Lokhande, Yash Yadav, Dinesh Biwal, Mangilal, and Vikas Biwal — to judicial custody till June 2.
CBI teams are now intensifying the investigation by questioning more students and their parents suspected to be linked to the case. Sources said a few more doctors from Latur are also under the agency’s radar.
Officials believe further major revelations could emerge as the investigation progresses.
