Pune: FIR Filed After Attack on PMC Officials Conducting National Census 2027 Work

Pune, 29th May 2026: A shocking incident of assault on Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) employees engaged in National Census 2027 duties has come to light from the Minatai Thackeray Colony area under the Bibwewadi ward office limits.
A female civic employee, along with her supervisors and fellow census workers, was allegedly brutally attacked while performing official government work. A case has been registered at Swargate Police Station against five members of a family and several unidentified persons for allegedly obstructing government work, assault, outraging modesty and causing injuries.
According to the police complaint, the complainant has been serving as a permanent peon with PMC for the last 17 years and was assigned duties as an enumerator for the National Census 2027 as per government orders.
The incident reportedly began on May 27 at around 3 pm when the complainant visited Lane No. 14 in Minatai Thackeray Colony to collect census information from the residence of Vikas Navnath More. During the visit, Kranti More allegedly refused to provide the required information, obstructed the official work and verbally abused the complainant using obscene language.
The complainant then called fellow enumerator Dhammanand Gaikwad for assistance. However, he too was allegedly threatened and abused by the accused, forcing the civic team to leave the work incomplete and return.
The following day, on May 28 at around 12.30 pm, a PMC team comprising supervisors Ramesh Jadhav and Atish Chavan, along with enumerators Akshay Babar, Shrikant Ganwadar, Akash Waghmare and Vaishnavi Shendge, revisited the area to counsel the More family and complete the census work. The complainant’s son also accompanied the team for security reasons due to the previous day’s altercation.
As per the complaint, while the officials were attempting to resolve the issue peacefully, the accused allegedly began arguing again. When the government team started leaving the spot, accused Vikas More, Kranti More, Mukta Kasbe, Lilavati More, Abhijit More and four to five unidentified persons allegedly chased and attacked the entire team from behind.
The complainant alleged that the accused assaulted the officials with kicks, punches and stones. During the scuffle, Vikas More allegedly held the female employee by her hand and tore the sleeve of her blouse, outraging her modesty.
The complainant further stated that her Redmi mobile phone, Fastrack wristwatch and gold chain were allegedly snatched during the attack. Her son was also reportedly assaulted severely, and one of the accused allegedly bit his thumb, causing injuries.
Following the incident, PMC employees approached Swargate Police Station and lodged a complaint. Based on the statement, police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to obstruction of government work, assault, outraging modesty, causing hurt and theft/damage to property.
The investigation is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Sujata Jadhav of Swargate Police Station.
