Pune Rain News: IMD Issues Yellow Alert, Thunderstorms and Lightning Likely on June 3
Pune, 2nd June 2026: As pre-monsoon activity intensifies across Maharashtra, several areas in Pune district received significant rainfall on Tuesday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for Pune and 17 other districts across the state for Wednesday, June 3.
The weather department has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, while simultaneously cautioning residents of coastal Konkan about persisting hot and humid conditions.
Heavy Pre-Monsoon Showers Lash Pune District
Several parts of Pune district witnessed moderate to heavy pre-monsoon showers on Tuesday. According to the 5:30 PM rainfall observations, Narayangaon in Pune district recorded the highest rainfall at 31.5 mm. It was closely followed by Lohgaon, which experienced a sudden heavy downpour of 28.0 mm. Other areas in and around the district also recorded notable rainfall, including:
Lavasa: 10.5 mm
Shirur: 8.0 mm
Girivan: 5.5 mm
Hadapsar: 3.5 mm
Lavale: 2.0 mm
Meanwhile, central stations such as Shivajinagar, Pashan, Chinchwad, Magarpatta, Koregaon Park (KP), and the National Defence Academy (NDA) remained dry during the afternoon observations.
Rising Temperatures and Upcoming Forecast for Pune
Before the rains brought a brief respite, Pune experienced warm and muggy temperatures on Tuesday. Pashan recorded the highest maximum temperature in the area at 38.4°C, followed by Koregaon Park at 37.5°C and Shivajinagar (Pune) at 37.3°C. Lohgaon and Chinchwad both touched 36.8°C, while Lavale and NDA settled at 36.0°C.
According to the IMD’s local forecast for Pune and its neighbourhood, maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 36°C from June 3 to June 5, with minimum temperatures ranging between 22°C and 25°C. Residents can expect “mainly clear skies becoming partly cloudy towards afternoon or evening, with thunderstorms, lightning, and light rain very likely” during this period. Similar convective weather is forecast to return on June 7 and 8. Additionally, the IMD issued an immediate warning on Tuesday evening for Pune and Nashik’s ghat areas, predicting moderate thunderstorms and gusty winds.
State-Wide Weather Alerts: Heavy Rain in Vidarbha, Sizzling Heat in Mumbai
The IMD has put 18 districts on a yellow alert for June 3 as pre-monsoon winds gain momentum over Maharashtra:
West & North Maharashtra: Alongside Pune, yellow alerts are in place for Satara and Kolhapur. In North Maharashtra, Nashik and Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) are under a yellow alert, while local authorities expect light to moderate showers in Dhule, Nandurbar, and Jalgaon. Sangli and Solapur are also likely to experience isolated thunderstorms.
Marathwada: Yellow alerts have been issued for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Beed, Latur, and Dharashiv (Osmanabad), warning of sudden pre-monsoon showers.
Vidarbha: Severe thunderstorm activity with lightning and strong gusty winds is predicted for Bhandara, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Nagpur, Wardha, and Yavatmal.
Konkan Division’s Dual Weather Pattern: While southern Konkan districts like Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are on a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain, northern coastal districts—including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad—remain under a yellow alert for extreme heat. The IMD has warned of hot and humid conditions in these metropolitan regions, urging citizens to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during the peak afternoon hours.
With pre-monsoon activity rapidly expanding, Maharashtra is set to witness dramatic atmospheric changes over the coming week as it transitions toward the official onset of the monsoon.
