Pune: Elderly Farmer Killed as House Roof Collapses During Pre-Monsoon Storm in Ambegaon

Ambegaon, 3rd June 2026: A 69-year-old farmer was killed after the roof of his house collapsed on him during a severe pre-monsoon storm accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain in Ambegaon taluka of Pune district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Haribhau Thorat, a resident of Chandoli village.

The sudden change in weather conditions across Maharashtra has brought unseasonal rainfall to several parts of the state. Ambegaon taluka was among the worst-affected areas, witnessing intense rainfall, gusty winds and thunderstorms that caused widespread damage to homes, crops and livestock on Tuesday.

According to local reports, strong winds blew away the roofs of several houses in Chandoli and nearby villages. The storm also claimed the lives of some animals, while standing crops suffered extensive damage. Polyhouses were destroyed, causing substantial financial losses to farmers.

The pre-monsoon storm that struck Ambegaon on Tuesday afternoon disrupted normal life across several villages, including Chandoli, Khadki and surrounding areas. Powerful winds, lightning and heavy rain flattened standing crops, leaving farmers worried about their livelihoods.

Residents reported that tin sheets were blown off rooftops, cattle sheds were damaged and several electricity poles were uprooted. The Khadki-Pimpalgaon belt was particularly affected, with agricultural produce and residential properties suffering major damage.

Some farmers said homes built with bank loans were severely damaged even before they could move in, leaving them uncertain about where they would live.

The widespread destruction has left farmers devastated, with many demanding immediate assistance and compensation from the administration for the losses suffered due to the unseasonal storm.
