Pune: AAP Flags Water Shortage at Vaikunth Crematorium, Alleges Hardship for Bereaved Families

Pune, 2nd June 2026: A shortage of water at Vaikunth Crematorium, a key cremation facility of Pune, has forced grieving families to struggle for access to water required for last rites and related rituals, claimed the members of Aam Aadmi Party.

Citizens have complained that inadequate water supply at the crematorium is causing significant inconvenience during funeral ceremonies, when water is essential for performing religious rituals, maintaining cleanliness and carrying out other necessary procedures, an office bearer of the party said.

The issue has sparked criticism, with many questioning how such a basic amenity could be unavailable at a major civic facility. Residents said it was unfortunate that families mourning the loss of loved ones were being forced to search for water at such a difficult time.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take immediate corrective measures. The party has demanded uninterrupted water supply at Vaikunth Crematorium, installation of additional storage tanks and an audit of all basic facilities available at the crematorium.

AAP has also sought accountability from the officials concerned and called for appropriate action against those responsible for the lapse. The party further demanded that the civic administration announce permanent measures to ensure that such a situation does not recur in the future.

“It is unfortunate that relatives of the deceased are being subjected to such inconvenience during moments of grief. The Pune Municipal Corporation must take immediate cognisance of the issue and resolve it without delay,” the party said in a statement.
