Pune: PMC Pushes Ahead With Katraj-Kondhwa Road Expansion, Plans Forced Possession of Pending Plots with Police Help
Pune, 03 June 2026: In a major push to ease chronic traffic congestion on the Katraj-Kondhwa Road, one of Pune’s busiest arterial stretches linking Satara Road and Solapur Road, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has accelerated the long-pending road widening project by initiating possession of acquired land and planning action against encroachments.
On Wednesday, Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Divte, along with senior officials from the road, land acquisition, property management and anti-encroachment departments, inspected the stretch from Rajas Society Chowk to the Pisoli limits and reviewed obstacles affecting the project.
PMC officials said property who are delaying or refusing to hand over land required for the road project will now face compulsory possession proceedings, with the assistance of the police. The civic administration has also directed Deputy Commissioner (Encroachments) Ramesh Shelar to remove all encroachments and unauthorized constructions on these plots within the next two days.
Officials further said that all structures obstructing road development on land already in PMC’s possession will be removed. Special teams have been instructed to clear unauthorised constructions falling within the road widening limits.
The road department has been directed to begin development work on all vacant land available with the civic body and ensure speedy execution of the project. PMC officials said multiple departments would work in coordination to fast-track the widening work and warned that delays or negligence would not be tolerated.
The civic administration expects the intensified drive to significantly accelerate the long-delayed project, which is considered crucial for reducing congestion and improving connectivity in the rapidly growing southern parts of the city.
The project received a significant boost after PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram made substantial budgetary provisions for land acquisition from municipal funds. With additional financial assistance from the state government, the land acquisition award has now been declared, paving the way for the next phase of implementation.
Officials from the land acquisition and property management departments have been taking possession of plots falling within the proposed road alignment over the past few days, with a majority of the process now completed.
