Pune: Speeding Tempo Hits Parked Vehicle in Lonavala, One Dead and Two Seriously Injured

Lonavala, 5th June 2026: A 38-year-old man died, and two others were seriously injured after a speeding tempo rammed into a stationary goods vehicle on the old Mumbai–Pune Highway near Zharawadi in Lonavala during the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Ambadas Verma Mane (38), a resident of Kandivali East, Mumbai. The driver of the tempo allegedly fled the scene after the accident.

According to the police, Ambadas Mane was travelling towards Mumbai in a goods vehicle (MH 47 BL 7814). At around 4.30 am, the vehicle was stopped near an HP petrol pump opposite Jain Sanatorium in Lonavala so that he could use a restroom.

After returning, Mane went behind the vehicle to check whether all the passengers were seated properly. At that moment, a tempo (MH 04 KU 9628) travelling from Pune towards Mumbai allegedly lost control and crashed into the stationary vehicle and Mane, who was standing behind it.

Mane died on the spot due to the impact. Another occupant, Verma Mukinda Mane, sustained serious injuries to his chest, ribs and leg. One more person was also seriously injured, while other passengers suffered minor injuries. Both vehicles were extensively damaged in the collision.
Following the accident, the tempo driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the scene.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, Raju Mane, the Lonavala City Police have registered a case against the unidentified driver and launched a search to trace him.
