A Body Found in Moshi, No Identity and No Leads—Until Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Made a Breakthrough
Moshi, 5th June 2026: A murder case that initially had no clues, no eyewitnesses, and an unidentified victim was successfully cracked by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Crime Branch through meticulous investigation, CCTV footage analysis, and the use of a local informer network.
The body of a man was found in an open ground in the Moshi area on June 12, 2023. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had been brutally murdered after being repeatedly attacked with a stone. However, the victim’s identity was unknown, and investigators had no immediate leads to trace the accused.
A breakthrough came when a missing person complaint regarding a scrap collector was registered at the MIDC Bhosari Police Station. Based on the complaint, police identified the deceased and began investigating his associates and daily activities.
Crime Branch officers questioned scrap dealers and others familiar with the victim. During the inquiry, CCTV footage collected from nearby shops showed the victim in the company of three men shortly before the murder. Police subsequently launched a search for the trio.
As the investigation progressed, Crime Branch personnel also activated their informer network. Acting on a tip-off, police detained two suspects from the Kudalwadi area for questioning.
During interrogation, the suspects provided conflicting accounts of the incident, raising investigators’ suspicions. When police informed them that CCTV footage had captured their movements with the victim, the two men allegedly confessed to the crime. They also disclosed the involvement of a third accomplice.
According to investigators, all four men worked as scrap collectors and earned their livelihood by selling discarded materials. A few days before the incident, they had collected metal sheets that were blown off houses and shops during strong winds and sold them for Rs 700. A dispute over the distribution of the money allegedly led to an argument among them.
Police said the three accused allegedly assaulted their friend during the quarrel and later killed him by repeatedly striking him with a stone.
“Initially, we had no clue about either the victim or the accused. During the investigation, we noticed discrepancies in the statements of the victim’s friends, which strengthened our suspicion. Sustained interrogation and verification of evidence eventually revealed their involvement in the murder,” said Santosh Patil, Senior Police Inspector.
