Kharadi, 5th June 2026: Three members of a family sustained serious burn injuries after an LPG cylinder leak triggered a powerful explosion and fire at a residential building in Khandve Nagar on Friday morning. One of them died during treatment.
According to the Pune Fire Brigade, a distress call was received at around 9:15 am reporting a fire and a suspected cylinder blast in a building at Khandve Nagar. Fire tenders from Kharadi, Dhanori and Yerawada fire stations were immediately dispatched to the spot.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that a fire had broken out on the first floor of a ground-plus-one residential structure, Fortune City. Fire personnel used hose reels to douse the flames and simultaneously rescued the injured occupants, who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The injured were identified as:
* Vishnu Gite (60) – Seriously injured
* Rudivanika Vishnu Gite (50) – Seriously injured
* Pandurang Vishnu Gite (35) – Seriously injured
Firefighters brought the blaze under control and carried out cooling operations to prevent any rekindling.
The fire caused extensive damage to the hall, where furniture, a television set and electrical wiring were completely destroyed. Doors of the bathroom and toilet, along with a geyser, were also damaged in the blaze. In the kitchen, a refrigerator and some furniture suffered partial damage. Thick smoke spread throughout the flat, leaving the walls blackened.
The building, a ground-plus-one RCC structure, sustained damage, though the exact extent of the financial loss is yet to be assessed.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred while a new LPG cylinder was being connected after the previous cylinder had run empty. A gas leak reportedly occurred during the replacement process, leading to the accumulation of LPG and a subsequent explosion followed by a fire.
Further details are awaited.
