Pune, 5th June 2026: On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a series of ambitious environmental initiatives under its flagship campaign, “Harit Pune, Samruddh Pune” (Green Pune, Prosperous Pune).

Aimed at combating rising urban temperatures and increasing the city’s green cover, the civic body has called upon residents to become active participants in environmental conservation by joining the “PMC Green Warrior” movement. The campaign includes a 100-location tree plantation drive, subsidized sapling distribution, a digital plantation tracking platform, and a native seed donation bank.

The initiative is being implemented under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and Mayor Manjusha Deepak Nagpure. Through its citizen engagement platform, PMC CARE, the civic administration has introduced four key programmes designed to make environmental conservation a collective responsibility.

100-Location Tree Plantation Drive

To mark World Environment Day, PMC is undertaking a coordinated tree plantation drive across 100 designated locations throughout Pune.
Citizens, local groups, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) interested in participating are encouraged to contact their nearest PMC ward office for sapling allocation and plantation site coordination.

PMC Green Warrior Initiative

To ensure the survival and monitoring of newly planted trees, PMC has launched the “PMC Green Warrior” programme, allowing citizens to register their plantation efforts in the municipal database.

How to Participate:

Plant a sapling in a suitable location.
Take a photograph while planting the sapling.
Scan the official QR code available on PMC banners, posters, and the municipal website.
Fill in the required details, upload the photograph, and submit the sapling’s location coordinates.

Benefits for Participants:
Receive an official “PMC Green Warrior” certificate.
Have the plantation officially registered in the “Green Pune, Prosperous Pune” database.
Become part of Pune’s citywide environmental conservation movement.

Native Seed Donation Drive

PMC has also established a Seed Collection Centre under the campaign slogan, “Let’s Build a Green Pune Through Seed Donation.”

Residents are encouraged to collect and donate seeds from seasonal fruits rather than discard them. The seeds will be nurtured in municipal nurseries and used to grow future native tree plantations.
