Pune, 8th June 2026: Pune Police have intensified their crackdown on illegal party networks operating on the city’s outskirts after investigations into the controversial Tulapur farmhouse rave revealed that organisers allegedly concealed the venue location until hours before the event in an apparent attempt to evade law enforcement scrutiny.

The late-night party, held at a luxury bungalow in Tulapur, was raided by Pune Police in the early hours of Sunday. Officials found 156 partygoers — 107 men and 49 women — at the venue, most of them aged between 21 and 30 years. Police detained 78 individuals, including organisers and event managers, for questioning before releasing them.

Addressing the media on Monday, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said the city police have launched extensive surveillance of the growing party culture around Pune and are closely monitoring social media platforms where such events are promoted.

“All parties are being monitored for illegal activities, including drug consumption and prostitution. Our teams are constantly scanning social media platforms where these events are advertised. The Project X House party was also under our watch, but the organisers disclosed the venue only on the day of the event,” Kumar said.

The Commissioner said strict action would be taken against those responsible for organising illegal parties.

“We will take stringent action against the organisers so that a strong message goes out and nobody attempts such activities in the future. Illegal parties, drug abuse and any unlawful activities will not be tolerated,” he said.

Kumar also pointed to a critical gap in information sharing between agencies. While the State Excise Department had reportedly granted permission for the event until 11.30 pm, police officials said they were not informed about the venue in advance.

“As per the standard operating procedure, organisers should have informed us about the location beforehand. We are now coordinating with the Excise Department to ensure real-time sharing of information so that such events do not escape police scrutiny in the future,” he added.

Investigators have found that the event was promoted aggressively through social media and online ticketing channels, while the exact location remained a closely guarded secret. Police sources said venue details were shared only with confirmed ticket holders shortly before the party began.

Authorities are also examining whether the party violated licensing conditions and whether prohibited activities were taking place at the venue. During the raid, police conducted breathalyser tests and found that 22 attendees had consumed alcohol. Earlier, officials had stated that small quantities of marijuana were recovered from some participants.

The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over a surge in secluded farmhouse parties on the fringes of Pune. Large areas that were previously under Pune Rural Police and Pimpri-Chinchwad Police jurisdictions have recently been merged into Pune city limits. Officials say many of these remote locations, surrounded by agricultural land, now house luxury farmhouses that are increasingly being used for private events.

“Several such properties have come up in isolated areas. Local police teams are conducting surveys and mapping these locations to prevent misuse and ensure compliance with the law,” Kumar said.

In a move aimed at addressing the social dimensions of substance abuse, Pune Police will also organise counselling sessions for party attendees and their parents. The programme will focus on the legal consequences of drug and alcohol abuse, responsible conduct, and the risks associated with attending unauthorised gatherings.

Police officials have made it clear that the investigation is far from over. Organisers, promoters, property owners and others linked to the event remain under scrutiny as authorities probe possible violations of narcotics, excise and public order laws.

The Tulapur raid has once again exposed the emergence of an underground party circuit operating beyond the city’s traditional nightlife zones, prompting authorities to tighten surveillance on remote farmhouses and private venues that have increasingly become hubs for high-profile weekend gatherings.

The police have identified seven main organizers who conspired to conceptualize, promote, and execute the illegal “Project X” event. They are:
