Pimpri Chinchwad, 9th June 2026 : Amid resistance from local residents and a heavy police presence, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) carried out a late-night demolition drive in Kudalwadi, razing 11 unauthorised religious structures, including temples and mosques, in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

The civic action, which began after midnight, was undertaken with the support of a large contingent of police personnel deployed to prevent any law-and-order issues. The operation led to a tense situation in the area, with reports of protests by residents opposing the demolition.

Sources said minor clashes and stone-pelting were reported during the drive, and some police personnel were injured. A senior police official said that at least two policemen sustained stitches due to injuries by stone pelting while others have sustained minor injuries. The situation was brought under control with mild use of force, he said.

According to civic officials, the demolished structures were unauthorised and had been identified as part of an ongoing drive against illegal constructions across the city. This was the second such action in a month as municipal officials had demolished four illegal religious structures in a similar action in the same area last month.
