Rs 5,000-Crore Pune Growth Hub Plan Takes Shape; Officials Review Key Infrastructure Projects
Pune, 9th June 2026: The Pune district administration has initiated efforts to prepare a comprehensive development roadmap under the Pune Growth Hub initiative, with officials reviewing priority infrastructure projects that could be implemented through a proposed ₹5,000-crore fund over the next five years.
A meeting of the Pune Growth Hub Executive Committee was held at the Divisional Commissioner’s Office on Monday to discuss the framework for the ambitious initiative, which aims to accelerate economic growth, enhance quality of life and promote sustainable urban development across the district.
Chairing the meeting, Divisional Commissioner Sheetal Teli-Ugale directed officials to prepare a detailed project blueprint by identifying and prioritising infrastructure projects that can drive long-term regional development. She emphasised the need to focus on sustainable growth while carefully assessing potential implementation challenges.
“The Pune Growth Hub is an important initiative for the district’s balanced and dynamic development. A comprehensive project plan should be prepared after thoroughly examining the feasibility and implementation requirements of each proposed project,” she said.
The meeting was attended by Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, PMRDA Additional Commissioner K. Manjulakshmi, Pune Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil, McKinsey & Company representative Raunak Shah and PIC Director Dinanath Kholkar.
During the discussion, Hardikar stressed the importance of establishing clear timelines and cost estimates for each project. He noted that several major infrastructure initiatives would require land acquisition and called for a long-term strategy that leverages the Pune Metropolitan Region’s economic strengths to boost industrial growth, attract investment and generate employment.
PMRDA Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari highlighted Pune’s emergence as one of India’s leading economic hubs, driven by its robust information technology sector, automobile industry, research institutions and thriving startup ecosystem. He said the Growth Hub initiative aims to further strengthen the region’s economic output while creating large-scale employment opportunities.
As part of the meeting, consulting firm McKinsey & Company presented a draft proposal that will be submitted to NITI Aayog under the Pune Growth Hub initiative. The proposal outlines key development priorities and strategic interventions aimed at enhancing regional competitiveness, strengthening infrastructure and supporting sustainable economic growth.
Officials said the Pune Growth Hub initiative is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the district’s future by integrating infrastructure expansion, economic development and employment generation under a unified long-term vision.
