Pune: Woman Dies After Being Pushed Into Dimbhe Dam Canal; Accused Arrested

Ambegaon, 16th June 2026: A 23-year-old woman died after allegedly being pushed into the Dimbhe Dam near Nighotwadi Phata in Ambegaon taluka of Pune district on Sunday evening. The accused, who allegedly pushed her into the canal following an altercation, was later rescued by local residents after he too jumped into the water.

According to the police, the incident took place near Nighotwadi Phata close to Manchar. The accused, identified as Ramesh Baban Kadale, allegedly got into a scuffle with the woman, Swapnali Bhangare, before pushing her into the canal. Soon after, Kadale allegedly jumped into the water himself.

Local residents who witnessed the incident rushed to the spot and managed to rescue Kadale. However, Bhangare was swept away by the strong current.

After being alerted, teams from the Manchar police, disaster management authorities and local volunteers launched a search operation. Following an intensive search lasting nearly 18 hours, Bhangare’s body was recovered from the canal on Monday.

The Manchar police have registered a case in connection with the incident and arrested Kadale. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the alleged crime.
