No-Parking Violators Back in Focus as Pune Police Resumes Towing Action
Pune, 19th June 2026: After a gap of nearly six months, the Pune traffic police have resumed towing vehicles parked in no-parking zones across the city, aiming to tackle worsening traffic congestion and road obstructions.
The towing operations had remained suspended since December 2025 after the contract of the agency responsible for lifting vehicles expired. With the fresh tender process yet to be completed, the enforcement drive had come to a standstill, leading to a sharp rise in illegal parking in several parts of the city.
Officials said the state government has now granted a three-month extension to the existing contractor, following which the traffic police have restarted the towing campaign.
During the period when the drive remained suspended, residents frequently complained about vehicles being parked indiscriminately in no-parking areas, particularly near major intersections, markets, commercial establishments and busy roads. The absence of towing action reportedly emboldened motorists to flout parking regulations.
Traffic police officials said illegal parking had contributed to slower traffic movement, increased congestion and difficulties for emergency vehicles navigating through crowded stretches.
With towing operations back in force, the traffic police expect improved compliance with parking rules and smoother traffic flow on city roads. Officials said the drive will be carried out across key congestion-prone locations in the coming weeks.
