Pune RTO Orders Special Inspection Drive for School Buses to Ensure Student Safety
Pune, 19th June 2026: With the commencement of the 2026 academic year, the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Pune, has ordered a special inspection drive for all school buses and school vans to ensure the safe transportation of students. The directive was issued by the Deputy Regional Transport Officer on June 19.
According to the order, all school buses must possess valid documents and comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and related safety regulations. To facilitate compliance, the RTO has announced that its office will remain open on Sundays to process the renewal of fitness certificates and other vehicle-related documents for school bus operators and owners.
The RTO has directed all Road Safety Squads to carry out intensive inspections of school buses and school vans across Pune. Vehicles found violating safety norms or operating without valid documents will face action under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Inspection teams have also been instructed to submit reports on the enforcement drive to the Regional Transport Office.
The initiative aims to enhance road safety and ensure that students travel in roadworthy and legally compliant vehicles as schools resume regular operations.
