IT Engineer Dies by Suicide After Alleged Harassment Over Childlessness; Husband, Mother-in-Law Among Those Booked

Sinhagad, 19th June 2026: A 27-year-old software engineer allegedly died by suicide after enduring sustained harassment over not being able to conceive, prompting the registration of a criminal case against her husband, mother-in-law and other relatives for allegedly abetting her suicide.

The deceased, Deepti Pradeep Ekshinge, was a resident of Manik Baug in the Sinhagad Road area. According to police, she allegedly jumped from the third floor of her residential building on June 17.

The complaint was lodged by her brother, Dr. Kiran Tushar Dudhbale, a resident of Chamorshi in Gadchiroli district, at Sinhagad Road Police Station. Based on his complaint, police have registered a case against Deepti’s husband, Pradeep Vitthal Ekshinge, her mother-in-law Surekha Ekshinge, and other relatives.

According to the FIR, Deepti and Pradeep, both computer engineers, met while working at an information technology company. Their professional acquaintance developed into a relationship, and the couple married in Pune on November 17, 2024.

The complainant alleged that following the marriage, Deepti was repeatedly subjected to mental harassment and taunts by her husband, mother-in-law and other family members because the couple had not been able to have children. The sustained harassment allegedly caused severe mental distress, ultimately leading her to take the extreme step.

Police have registered an offence for alleged abetment of suicide and are investigating the circumstances leading to her death. Assistant Police Inspector Rajkumar Adagale of Sinhagad Road Police Station is conducting the investigation.

The allegations are based on the complainant’s statement, and the investigation is ongoing. The accused have not publicly responded to the allegations.
