Fergusson College Road Pipeline Burst Wastes Thousands of Litres Amid Pune Water Cuts
Shivajinagar, 20th June 2026: Thousands of litres of water were wasted after a water pipeline burst on Fergusson College Road, triggering public outrage amid the ongoing water shortage in the city.
The incident comes at a time when the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has implemented an alternate-day water supply schedule due to declining water levels in the Khadakwasla dam chain. The civic administration has been urging residents to conserve water as reservoir levels continue to remain low.
In this backdrop, the wastage of a significant quantity of water following the pipeline burst has raised concerns among citizens, who questioned the civic body’s maintenance and monitoring mechanisms.
The pipeline rupture disrupted water supply to parts of Ghole Road, Apte Road, and nearby areas. Water gushed onto the road, causing waterlogging and temporary traffic disruptions on Fergusson Road.
Officials from PMC’s Water Supply Department said repair work was taken up immediately, and normal water supply would be restored once the damaged pipeline is fixed.
However, the incident has intensified public frustration, with residents expressing anger over the loss of water during a period of rationing and supply cuts.
