Pune, 20 June 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) was officially felicitated by the State Government for its pivotal contribution to the successful execution of the ‘Pune Grand Tour 2026’ — India’s first-ever ‘UCI Class 2.2’ international cycling tournament.

Following directives from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also serves as the Chairman of PMRDA, the authority had extended critical financial backing for the marquee sporting event. Under this initiative, an arduous 450-kilometre route was upgraded and aligned with international racing standards in record time by the Public Works Department (PWD). PMRDA played a key role in infrastructure development and project implementation.

On behalf of the authority, PMRDA’s In-charge Chief Engineer Shivprasad Bagdi accepted the certificate of appreciation from Guardian Minister Sunetra Pawar. Divisional Commissioner Sheetal Teli-Ugale and District Collector Jitendra Dudi were also present at the ceremony.

Under the leadership of Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, the essential funding for the race was cleared and disbursed swiftly. Acknowledging this stellar contribution, the state government presented the special honour to PMRDA.

“Transforming a 450-kilometre stretch into an international-standard racing track within record time is a phenomenal feat of engineering skill. Efficient execution, backed by seamless financial and administrative synergy, made it possible to deliver a world-class, safe, and highly competitive track,” said Guardian Minister Sunetra Pawar.

The Pune District Administration attributed the project’s resounding success to the strategic and financial support provided by the PMRDA’s engineering wing, under the guidance of Chairman Devendra Fadnavis, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, and Additional Metropolitan Commissioner K. Manjulaxmi.

Officials noted that this state honour underscores the engineering department’s indispensable role in executing the ‘Pune Grand Tour 2026’, an event that has significantly elevated Pune’s stature on the global sporting map.
