Ketan Agarwal Case: Accused Siya and Chetan Exchanged 2,000 Calls, Spoke for 238 Hours, Say Police

Pune, 25th June 2026: The investigation into the high-profile death of Ketan Agarwal has taken a significant turn, with the statement of a security guard at Lohgad Fort and an analysis of phone records adding weight to police suspicions that the incident may have been a premeditated murder rather than an accident.

According to investigators, Ketan’s fiancée, Siya Goyal, and Chetan Chaudhary, both of whom have been arrested in connection with the case, allegedly attempted to enter Lohgad Fort without purchasing entry tickets on the day of the incident.

In his statement to police, security guard Dheeraj Jadhav said that when he asked Siya Goyal to buy a ticket, she claimed there was no mobile network connectivity on her phone. A short while later, Chetan Chaudhary arrived at the fort and was also asked to purchase a ticket. However, he allegedly told the guard that he had come for exercise and would pay while returning before proceeding further. Investigators believe the testimony could prove crucial in establishing the sequence of events leading up to Ketan’s death.

The case was initially registered as an accidental death after Ketan allegedly fell into a gorge at Lohgad Fort. However, the investigation has since shifted focus, with police exploring the possibility of foul play. Authorities have expanded the probe by analysing CCTV footage, mobile call detail records (CDRs), location data, and witness statements.

Investigators said an examination of call records has revealed the extent of communication between the two accused. According to police officials, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary had allegedly been in regular contact for several months despite Goyal being engaged to Ketan.

Police sources said that between January 1 and June 18, the duo exchanged more than 2,000 phone calls and spent a cumulative 238 hours speaking to each other. Investigators believe the communication pattern could provide important insights into the nature of their relationship and the circumstances surrounding the case.

Earlier, Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill had stated that preliminary findings suggested Goyal and Chaudhary had been in a relationship for approximately eight months. He said that while their families were aware that the two knew each other socially, investigators are now examining whether family members were aware of the nature of their relationship.

A major breakthrough reportedly came during the examination of CCTV footage recorded on June 18. Investigators noticed a young man wearing a hoodie and cap despite temperatures being around 33 degrees Celsius.

Police said the unusual attire raised suspicions. The footage allegedly shows the man stopping after noticing Ketan and Siya and making hand gestures. Investigators claim Siya appeared to respond to those gestures, strengthening suspicions of coordination among the accused.

Police have also examined Ketan’s personality and behavioural traits through detailed interactions with his family members. According to relatives, Ketan was a cautious individual who maintained distance from others during treks and generally avoided risky locations and unnecessary adventures. Based on these statements, investigators believe it is unlikely that he would have voluntarily ventured close to the edge of a dangerous cliff.

Another aspect under scrutiny is Ketan’s repeated visits to Lohgad Fort. Investigators found that he had visited the fort three times within a span of 18 days. Family members told police that Siya had allegedly argued with them after they objected to a visit on June 4. The couple later visited the fort again on June 14. On June 18, Ketan reportedly informed his mother that a friend of Siya was planning a “surprise” for him.

Police suspect that a conspiracy may have been executed at the fort. According to investigators, Siya allegedly claimed to be tired and sat down, prompting Ketan to stop as well. It was at that moment, police suspect, that he may have been pushed into the gorge. Authorities are examining technical, forensic, and circumstantial evidence to establish the exact sequence of events.

The investigation has also revealed that the two families were acquainted through their respective business activities. While Goyal’s family is engaged in the spice trade, Chaudhary’s family operates a grocery business. Chaudhary is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree and has previously been active in cricket.

Meanwhile, Chaudhary’s family has rejected the allegations against him. His uncle, Udaram Chaudhary, said the family had no knowledge of any relationship between Chetan and Siya. He claimed they became aware of her identity only after media reports about the case surfaced and asserted that his nephew had been falsely implicated.

Further investigation has revealed that Ketan and Siya were scheduled to marry in November. Police suspect that Goyal was allegedly involved in a relationship with Chaudhary and was unwilling to proceed with the marriage. Investigators are probing whether concerns over family reputation may have led the accused to allegedly conspire against Ketan instead of calling off the wedding.

Police officials said the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are examining several aspects of the case, including whether the accused had visited Lohgad Fort in advance to survey the location before the incident. Authorities continue to analyse mobile phone records, digital evidence, and forensic findings.

Officials have maintained that the exact circumstances surrounding Ketan’s death will become clear only after the investigation is completed. However, the security guard’s testimony, CCTV footage, and phone record analysis have added a new dimension to one of Pune’s most closely watched criminal investigations.
