Pune’s Laxmi Road Fire: Electrical Wiring, Bikes and Shop Goods Gutted in Early Morning Blaze
Pune, 25th June 2026: A major fire broke out in the basement of a commercial building on Laxmi Road in Sadashiv Peth early Thursday morning, causing extensive damage to goods, vehicles, and electrical wiring. Fire officials said no injuries were reported in the incident.
According to the fire department, the blaze was reported at around 5.34 am from Shop No. 593, Sobha Arcade, where Karishma Saree Centre and other commercial establishments are located in the basement of the building near Bank of India on Laxmi Road.
As soon as the information was received, the Kasba Fire Station team rushed to the spot. Upon arrival, firefighters found that a major fire had erupted in the basement, generating heavy smoke that quickly spread through the premises.
Given the intensity of the smoke, firefighters used breathing apparatus (BA sets) and immediately laid a first-response water line to begin firefighting operations.
Fire officer Rajesh Jagtap said, “We received the fire call at 5.34 am. On reaching the spot, we found a basement fire with heavy smoke accumulation. Our team immediately used BA sets, created a water line, and began firefighting operations. Residents from the upper floors were evacuated safely as a precaution.”
To bring the fire under control, assistance was sought from the Central Fire Station. One additional fire engine and a water tanker (bowser) were deployed. Later, an Erandwane fire vehicle and another tanker were also pressed into service to strengthen the firefighting operation.
Firefighters worked continuously to trace the source of the fire and douse the flames using sustained water jets. After several hours of effort, the fire was brought under control.
Preliminary inspection revealed that five two-wheelers, three bicycles, and electrical wiring in the basement were completely damaged. A shop in the basement also suffered significant losses after the fire spread to its shutter, clothing stock, and wooden furniture.
Senior officials including Vijay Bhilare, Rajesh Jagtap, Pradeep Khedekar, Station Officer Kamlesh Chaudhary, and in-charge officer Prashant Gaikar were present at the site during the operation.
Officials said that while the fire has been brought under control, the exact cause of the blaze is yet to be determined. Further investigation is underway.
