Pune: Maharashtra Assembly Seeks SIT Probe into Ketan Agarwal Murder
Mumbai, 26th June 2026: The Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday directed the state government to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged murder of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal, with the issue drawing bipartisan attention in the House.
The direction was issued by presiding officer Raju Khare after BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar sought an SIT probe into the case. The matter was raised in the Assembly by NCP (SP) MLA Sunil Shelke.
Calling the case “serious”, Khare said, “An SIT probe should be conducted.”
However, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Bhaskar Jadhav questioned whether a direction issued by the presiding officer was binding on the government. Referring to an incident in March, Jadhav cited the suspension of the Satara Superintendent of Police by Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe over the alleged manhandling of Cabinet minister Shamburaj Desai during the zilla parishad elections, and sought clarity on the enforceability of such directions.
