Pune: Unable to Bear Mother’s Death, 25-Year-Old Dies by Suicide; Cremated Together in Pune
Pune, 29th June 2026: Unable to bear the shock of his mother’s death while she was undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital, a 25-year-old man allegedly died by suicide at his home in Parvati Darshan on Saturday morning. The mother and son were cremated together at Vaikunth crematorium in Navi Peth amid an atmosphere of grief.
The deceased were identified as Manda Dodke (50) and her son, Sahil Ganesh Dodke (25), residents of Parvati Darshan.
According to police, the Dodke family was originally from the Dandekar Bridge area but had recently shifted to a rented house in Parvati Darshan after a slum rehabilitation project began in their locality.
Manda worked as a caregiver for elderly patients, while Sahil, the only son born after four daughters, delivered milk packets early every morning and also worked as a lift repair technician.
Police said Manda suffered a paralytic stroke early on Thursday and was admitted to Sassoon General Hospital by Sahil. Her condition continued to deteriorate over the next two days.
On Saturday morning, Sahil had gone to the hospital carrying tea for his mother when doctors informed him that she had died. Devastated by the loss and reportedly blaming himself for not being able to save her, he returned home and allegedly hanged himself.
Around 10am, relatives who came looking for him received no response after repeatedly knocking on the door. His nephew peeped through a gap in the door and found him hanging. Sahil was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead before treatment.
Senior inspector Rajendra Sahane of Parvati police station said they have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and are conducting further inquiries.
