Pune: Worker Crushed to Death by JCB in Daund; Body Dumped on Roadside to Stage Accident
Daund, 1st July 2026: A 23-year-old migrant labourer from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly crushed to death by a JCB machine while asleep at a sugarcane processing unit (gurhal) in Khamgaon village of Daund taluka. Police said the accused then allegedly dumped his body on the Wagholi-Rahu road in an attempt to pass off the death as a road accident.
The incident came to light during an investigation by the Yavat police, following which a case was registered against the JCB driver, its owner and two others.
The deceased has been identified as Ramu Shambhu Pasi (23), a native of Kola village in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. He had been working at the gurhal in the Gadimod area of Khamgaon since April 2026. His brother, Raju Shambhu Pasi, lodged a complaint with the Yavat police.
Based on the complaint, police have booked JCB owner Avinash Balasaheb Yadav, Ganesh Haribhau Jagtap, Kallu alias Pradhan Istkar, and JCB driver Alam.
According to the police, the incident occurred around midnight on June 19 when JCB work was underway at the gurhal. The driver, allegedly operating the machine negligently, ran over Ramu Pasi while he was asleep, killing him on the spot.
Instead of informing the police, the accused allegedly threatened workers not to disclose the incident, warning them of dire consequences if they spoke about it. Police said the four then conspired to conceal the accident by placing Ramu’s body in the boot of a car.
During the early hours of the morning, they allegedly dumped the body on the Wagholi-Rahu road to make it appear that he had died in a road accident.
Meanwhile, contractor Tamerej Faridi informed Ramu’s family that he had gone missing. His brother Raju travelled from Uttar Pradesh to Daund and searched for him at various places for two days. On June 21, during inquiries at the gurhal, he learnt about the alleged incident, following which a police complaint was filed. Police are investigating the case further.
