Pimpri Chinchwad, 2nd July 2026: Despite the onset of the monsoon, Pimpri Chinchwad is grappling with a water crisis after a 15% reduction in water supply from the Pavana dam, leaving several parts of the city facing low-pressure supply and shortages.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has received 409 water-related complaints between June 19 and June 30 following the reduction in supply. While eight complaints have been resolved, the remaining 401 are pending, civic officials said.

The city receives its drinking water from the Pavana and Andra dams in Maval. Following directions from the water resources department, PCMC began implementing a 15% water cut from June 19 after the water stock in Pavana reservoir declined.

As a result, the daily water allocation to the civic body has been reduced from 550 MLD to 504 MLD. The civic administration has also curtailed water supply timings across the city to manage the shortfall.

Officials said the situation has been aggravated by poor rainfall in the Pavana dam catchment. Although the monsoon has intensified in many parts of Maharashtra, the reservoir area has received only 124 mm of rainfall so far this season.

At present, the dam’s live storage stands at 16.16% of its capacity, significantly lower than the 60.74% recorded during the corresponding period last year. Irrigation department officials said rainfall in the catchment has so far remained below expectations and urged citizens to conserve water until reservoir levels improve.

The civic body is continuing with rationed water supply until inflows into the Pavana reservoir increase substantially.
