Pune, 3rd July 2026: In a bid to reduce traffic disruption during the monsoon, the Pune Traffic Police have mapped 26 locations across the city that are highly susceptible to waterlogging. The list has been submitted to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), with recommendations for corrective measures before heavy rainfall intensifies.

According to the traffic police, even moderate showers have previously caused flooding at these locations, leading to long traffic snarls and delays for commuters. The identified stretches include Shahir Amar Shaikh Chowk, Fatimanagar, Bhairobanala Chowk, Radha Hotel Chowk in Baner, North Main Road in Mundhwa, Tadigutta Chowk, Seven Loves Chowk, the road below the Ruby Hall Metro station, Gunjan Talkies, Rajaram Bridge, and several other key junctions.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sandip Bhajibhakare said the department has graded the vulnerable locations into four categories—A+, A, B+ and B—based on the severity of water accumulation and its impact on vehicular movement.

“The categorisation was carried out after reviewing emergency calls received during the 2025 monsoon season. The findings have been shared with the Pune Municipal Corporation so that preventive measures can be taken,” Bhajibhakare said.

He added that the assessment considered factors such as the depth of waterlogging and the traffic volume on each road. The traffic police have also recommended that the civic body position portable dewatering and mud pumps at vulnerable locations to ensure quicker drainage and minimise traffic disruption during periods of heavy rainfall.
