Pune, 3rd July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is working on a digital platform that will allow residents to check the availability of beds in private hospitals in real time. The online dashboard, expected to be rolled out within the next two months, is aimed at helping patients locate vacant beds quickly and reducing delays in hospital admissions.

The initiative was proposed after concerns were raised during a recent PMC General Body meeting, where elected representatives highlighted complaints from citizens about difficulties in securing admissions at private hospitals, especially due to the unavailability of intensive care unit (ICU) beds.

PMC Assistant Health Officer Dr. Suryakant Devkar said the civic administration has received repeated feedback from citizens, social organisations and public representatives regarding the lack of transparent information on hospital bed occupancy.

“To address these concerns, we have proposed a technology-driven solution to the Information Technology Department. An initial meeting has already been held, and the project will move ahead once the implementation framework is finalised,” he said.

According to PMC officials, the proposed system will initially include around 180 private hospitals and 20 civic-run maternity hospitals. The dashboard will provide updated information on the availability of ICU, general ward and maternity beds at participating healthcare facilities.

The information will be accessible through mobile phones, while digital display boards at hospital entrances are also expected to show the latest bed status. Officials believe this will help patients and their families make faster decisions during medical emergencies instead of visiting multiple hospitals in search of an available bed.

The civic body decided to develop the platform as a technology-based monitoring mechanism because of limited manpower available to verify individual complaints regarding bed availability.

Under the proposed system, empanelled hospitals will be required to update their bed occupancy data regularly to ensure the information remains accurate and reliable.

Officials said the platform will focus particularly on transparency in the availability of ICU beds, along with general and maternity beds, enabling patients to access critical care more efficiently during emergencies.
