Pune Municipal Corporation Records Rs 1,395.86 Crore in Property Tax Collection During First Quarter of FY 2026–27
Pune, 4th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recorded a historic property tax collection of ₹1,395.86 crore during the first quarter (April–June) of the financial year 2026–27, registering a significant increase over the corresponding period last year.
According to PMC’s Property Tax Department, 7,40,282 property owners paid their taxes during the first three months of the financial year. In comparison, 6,86,712 properties had contributed ₹1,292.94 crore during the same period in FY 2025–26. This marks an increase of ₹102.92 crore in revenue, while the number of tax-paying properties has risen by nearly 53,500.
The increase reflects not only higher revenue generation but also improved taxpayer participation in the civic body’s tax collection drive. Property tax remains one of the PMC’s primary sources of revenue, funding essential civic services such as road development, water supply, sewerage infrastructure, public transport, and other urban development projects.
Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the city is witnessing the implementation of several infrastructure and development projects, making robust property tax collection crucial for ensuring adequate financial resources. He expressed satisfaction over the encouraging response from citizens, which has resulted in strong collections during the very first quarter of the financial year.
Residential Properties Contribute the Largest Share
Residential properties accounted for the highest share of tax revenue, with 6,15,352 properties contributing ₹688.20 crore. Non-residential properties generated ₹567.02 crore from 87,596 properties.
In addition, PMC collected ₹45.38 crore from open plots and ₹95.27 crore from mixed-use properties.
Online Payments Dominate Tax Collection
Digital payment modes continued to dominate property tax collections. A total of 5,41,500 property owners paid their taxes online, contributing ₹927.02 crore.
Meanwhile, ₹114.38 crore was collected through cash payments, while cheque and demand draft transactions accounted for ₹354.46 crore. The figures indicate growing public confidence in PMC’s digital tax payment system.
Zone 2 Tops Revenue Collection
Among the five property tax zones, Zone 2 emerged as the highest revenue contributor, collecting ₹392.48 crore.
Zone-wise collections are as follows:
Zone 2: ₹392.48 crore
Zone 1: ₹377.93 crore
Zone 4: ₹292.28 crore
Zone 3: ₹204.57 crore
Zone 5: ₹117.81 crore
Strong Revenue Expected to Boost Development Works
The record collection of nearly ₹1,400 crore in the first quarter is expected to strengthen the PMC’s financial position and accelerate pending as well as proposed infrastructure projects across the city. Along with grants from the state and central governments, higher own-source revenue is expected to provide greater financial flexibility for civic development.
The municipal administration is also aiming to achieve a new record in annual property tax collection by the end of the current financial year.
