Talegaon, 5th July 2026: A dramatic incident in Talegaon Dabhade has exposed serious lapses in the execution of a civic infrastructure project after a powerful jet of water suddenly burst through the middle of a newly asphalted road during a pipeline pressure test. The incident briefly alarmed residents, many of whom initially feared that the road had collapsed. The entire episode was captured on CCTV.

The incident occurred during the testing of a new water supply pipeline laid beneath the road as part of the town’s water supply scheme. The pipeline had been installed around one-and-a-half years ago, following which the road was resurfaced with asphalt. The water supply project was scheduled to be inaugurated next week.

On Saturday, the Talegaon Dabhade Municipal Council released water from the newly constructed storage tank to conduct a trial run of the pipeline. Within moments, a massive fountain of water erupted through the centre of the road, creating the impression that the road had cracked open. The unexpected sight left local residents shocked and frightened.

A subsequent inspection reportedly revealed that the contractor had failed to properly connect two sections of the underground pipeline. The faulty joint gave way during the pressure test, causing the dramatic water burst and exposing deficiencies in the execution of the project.

Taking serious note of the incident, Talegaon Dabhade Municipal Council Chief Officer Girish Dapekar said the contractor would be held responsible for rectifying the damaged pipeline and restoring the affected road. He added that the entire cost of repairs and road reconstruction would be recovered from the contractor.

The incident has raised fresh questions over the quality of public infrastructure works and contractor accountability in Talegaon Dabhade, especially as the project was on the verge of being commissioned.
