Pune District on Red Alert; All Schools to Remain Closed on Monday, Announces Collector Jitendra Dudi
Pune, 5th July 2026: The Pune district administration has declared a holiday for all schools and anganwadis across Pune city and rural parts of the district on Monday, July 6, following a Red Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting extremely heavy rainfall.
Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi issued the order on Sunday as a precautionary measure in view of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations across the district.
According to the order, all anganwadis and primary, secondary and higher secondary schools of all educational boards and mediums in Pune city and Pune district (rural) will remain closed on Monday. The decision has been taken to prioritise the safety of students amid the forecast of intense rainfall.
However, all headmasters, teachers and non-teaching staff have been directed to report to their respective institutions during regular office hours. They have been instructed to remain available for disaster management-related duties as directed by the local administration, if required.
Meanwhile, the district administration has appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers, streams, waterfalls and other locations with fast-flowing water, and strictly follow advisories issued by the administration and the India Meteorological Department.
The administration has urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities as the district braces for another spell of intense monsoon rainfall.
