Heavy Rain Triggers 51 Tree-Fall Incidents Across Pune City in 20 Hours

Pune, 6th July 2026: As torrential rain continued to lash Pune over the past 24 hours, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) recorded 51 tree-fall incidents across the city between 5 pm on Sunday and 1 pm on Monday, civic officials said.

The Pune Fire Brigade responded to all the incidents and cleared fallen trees from roads and public spaces. Officials said no injuries or fatalities were reported in any of the incidents.

The tree-fall incidents came amid widespread disruption caused by incessant rainfall across Pune district. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of the district received extremely heavy rainfall during the 24-hour period ending 8.30 am on Monday.

Among urban areas, Chinchwad recorded the highest rainfall at 206.5 mm, while Pashan received 113 mm and Shivajinagar 108.4 mm. In the ghat sections, Lonavala recorded an exceptional 670 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, taking its seasonal total to 1,640 mm. Tamhini Ghat received 580 mm during the same period, while Shirgaon recorded 540 mm.

The heavy rain led to waterlogging, overflowing rivers, traffic disruptions, landslides and several rescue operations across Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, with civic agencies remaining on high alert as rainfall continued.
