Pune, 6th July 2026: The Irrigation Department has issued a precautionary advisory warning that water may be released from the Khadakwasla Dam spillway within the next 24 hours due to heavy rainfall in the dam’s catchment area and rapidly increasing inflows.

According to the advisory, the Khadakwasla Dam reservoir was at 32% of its storage capacity as of 2:00 pm on Monday (July 6). However, with intense rainfall continuing in the catchment area, officials expect the reservoir to reach 80% capacity or more within the next 24 hours.

The department said that depending on the rainfall situation and the volume of inflows, water discharge from the dam spillway could commence at any time.

Authorities have appealed to the public not to enter the riverbed under any circumstances. Residents have also been asked to immediately shift any materials, equipment, or livestock from the riverbed to safer locations.

The advisory further directs officials and local authorities to alert residents living in low-lying areas along the river and take all necessary precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

The Irrigation Department has urged citizens to remain vigilant, follow official instructions, and cooperate with authorities until the situation normalises.

The advisory was issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer, Nira Deoghar Project Management Sub-Division, Property Management Sub-Division, Pune.
