Two Feared Trapped as Landslide Hits Resort Near Lonavala

Pune, 7th July 2026: Rescue teams were rushed to the North Point and 360 Resort near Lonavala on Tuesday after a landslide was reported amid incessant rain, with officials fearing that at least two people may be trapped under the debris.

According to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), teams from the Pune Disaster Response Force (PDRF) have reached the spot and launched a search and rescue operation. Officials said details of the incident were still emerging.

The incident comes as Lonavala continues to witness exceptionally heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded 620 mm of rainfall in the hill station in the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, after 670 mm was recorded on Monday, making it one of the most intense spells of rainfall in the region’s recorded history.

PDRF teams have been responding to multiple emergency calls related to landslides, flooding and waterlogging across Pune district over the past two days.

According to the district administration, 22 landslide incidents have been reported across the district during this period. On Monday, three members of a family were killed after a rain-triggered landslide buried their house in Patan village in Maval taluka.

Authorities have urged residents and tourists to avoid travelling to landslide-prone areas as heavy rain is expected to continue. Rescue operations at the Lonavala site were still underway at the time of going to press.
