Over 1,000 Evacuated As Heavy Rain Floods Pune; PMC responds to Wall Collapse, Waterlogging and Tree Fall Calls
Pune, 7th July 2026: More than 1,000 residents were evacuated to relief centres as heavy rain continued to lash Pune city, while the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) responded to dozens of emergency calls related to waterlogging, wall collapses and fallen trees over the past 24 hours.
According to the PMC’s disaster management department, 1,040 people from 260 families were shifted from flood-prone areas to temporary shelters set up in schools across the city.
The largest evacuation was carried out from Shantinagar in Yerawada, where 500 residents from 125 families were shifted to a municipal schools after floodwaters entered the locality.
In Sai Nath Nagar, Wadgaon Sheri, 100 people from 25 families were moved to a civic school, while 200 residents from 50 families in Adarsh Nagar, Bopodi were relocated to Dr Rajendra Prasad School.
Another 120 residents from 30 families affected by flooding near Patil Estate were shifted to Narveer Tanaji Wadi Community Hall, School No. 74B and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar School in Wakdewadi. In Panchsheel Nagar, Yerawada, 40 people from 10 families were accommodated at a community hall.
The civic body said it received 63 rain-related complaints between 8.30 am on July 6 and 8.30 am on July 7. Of these, 21 complaints were related to waterlogging on roads and 28 complaints involved fallen trees or branches. The remaining complaints included drain choke-ups and minor civic issues, all of which were attended to by field staff.
PMC officials also received four complaints of wall collapses during the period, including incidents reported at Peth-Dhankawadi Galli and Ashok Chowk-Nana Peth. No casualties were reported in these incidents.
The disaster management department said emergency control rooms are functioning round the clock and are coordinating with the India Meteorological Department, irrigation department, traffic police and other civic departments to monitor the evolving situation.
PMC has deployed additional manpower and equipment, including sanitation workers, pumps, dewatering machines, JCBs and emergency vehicles, to respond to rain-related emergencies. The civic body has also set up 41 flood assistance centres across the city to provide relief and assistance to affected residents.
