PMC Gears Up to Welcome Palkhi Procession with ‘Pune Pratham Sevawari 2026’ Initiative
Pune, 7th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed extensive preparations for the arrival of the revered Palkhi processions of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj, launching its ‘Pune Pratham – Sevawari 2026’ initiative to provide comprehensive facilities for thousands of Warkaris expected to enter the city.
Under the initiative, PMC has arranged sanitation services, uninterrupted drinking water supply, temporary toilets, medical assistance, emergency response teams, street lighting, fire safety measures, traffic coordination and a dedicated control room along the Palkhi route and at major halt locations. Civic officials said all municipal departments have worked in coordination to ensure the city’s preparedness for the annual Ashadhi Wari.
Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, accompanied by the Municipal Commissioner, senior officials and department heads, inspected the Palkhi route and various halt locations to review the arrangements and issue necessary instructions. Department-wise responsibilities have been assigned to ensure that Warkaris experience a safe and hassle-free pilgrimage while passing through Pune.
With monsoon conditions prevailing across the city, PMC has also strengthened its emergency preparedness. Disaster management teams, the Health Department, the Fire Brigade and officials from regional ward offices have been placed on round-the-clock alert to respond to waterlogging, medical emergencies and other contingencies. A dedicated monitoring and control mechanism has been activated to ensure cleanliness, safety and immediate assistance throughout the procession.
The civic administration has appealed to citizens to follow the revised traffic regulations during the Palkhi procession, comply with official advisories and take necessary precautions in view of the ongoing rains. It also urged residents to cooperate with the municipal administration and police to ensure the smooth, safe and devotional conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
“The arrival of the Palkhi processions of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj in Pune is a celebration of faith, service and culture for every Punekar. Serving the Warkaris is equivalent to serving the saints, and the Pune Municipal Corporation has ensured that every department is fully prepared. Through the ‘Pune Pratham – Sevawari 2026′ initiative, we seek to carry forward the saints’ message of equality, brotherhood and humanity. I appeal to every citizen to participate in this sacred occasion with a spirit of selfless service,” said Mayor Manjusha Nagpure.
