Pune, 7th July 2026 : As part of its ‘Pune Pratham – Seva Wari 2026’ initiative, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced the Wari Traditional Attire Competition 2026 for school students, encouraging children to celebrate Maharashtra’s rich Warkari tradition through creative costumes inspired by the annual Wari pilgrimage.
The competition aims to introduce the younger generation to the spiritual and cultural significance of the Wari while fostering awareness about the lives of saints, Maharashtra’s folk traditions, and the values of devotion, equality, service, and social harmony.
The competition has been divided into three age categories: Group A (0–5 years), Group B (6–10 years), and Group C (11–16 years). Winners in each category will receive cash prizes of ₹10,000 for first place, ₹7,000 for second place, and ₹5,000 for third place.
Participants are expected to dress in costumes based on themes such as the Wari tradition, Warkari culture, the lives of saints, Maharashtra’s folk heritage, social messages, and values that inspire unity and harmony. Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, relevance to the theme, and overall presentation.
Students can register online by filling in their details, including their name, age, school information, and parent or guardian contact details. A clear PNG photograph in Wari-themed attire must also be uploaded. Registration can be completed by scanning the QR code provided in the official competition poster.
Mayor Manjusha Deepak Nagpure said, “The Wari is a symbol of Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage. Through this competition, we hope to inspire children to embrace the values of devotion, equality, and service while preserving our cherished traditions.”
The competition is being organised under the guidance of PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and Mayor Manjusha Deepak Nagpure as part of the civic body’s broader efforts to preserve Maharashtra’s cultural legacy and encourage active participation in the celebrations surrounding the annual Wari pilgrimage.
