Moshi Building Collapse: Rescue Operation Intensifies After Garbage Mound Crashes onto Three-Storey Structure; NDRF, Army, PDRF Deployed

Pimpri Chinchwad, 8th July 2026: A massive rescue operation is underway at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) waste disposal site in Moshi after a heap of garbage collapsed onto a three-storey building on Wednesday afternoon, trapping several people under the debris.

The incident occurred at around 1.30 pm, when a portion of the garbage mound at the Moshi garbage depot reportedly gave way and crashed onto the adjacent three-storey building.

According to officials, around 19 people were initially believed to be trapped inside the building. Rescue teams have so far pulled four people out safely, while efforts are continuing to locate and rescue those still feared trapped beneath the rubble. Some official updates have estimated that between eight and ten people may still be trapped, though authorities are yet to confirm the final number.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), PCMC Fire Brigade, Pimpri Chinchwad Police, and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) Disaster Response Force (PDRF) have been deployed at the site. Rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing using specialised equipment to clear the debris.

An Indian Army contingent from Dehu Road, comprising four officers and 25 personnel, has also joined the rescue efforts to assist the civil administration.

Senior officials, including PCMC Mayor Ravi Landge, Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi, and Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey, are present at the site and are monitoring the rescue operation.

Authorities said every effort is being made to safely extricate those trapped under the collapsed structure. The cause of the collapse is yet to be officially established.
