Mohammadwadi, 9th July 2026: After weeks of complaints and growing concerns over commuter safety, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed repair work on the dangerous road crater outside Shalimar Hotel in Mohammadwadi’s NIBM Annexe, bringing relief to thousands of daily commuters.

The damaged horizontal road cut, which had remained unattended for several weeks and posed a serious risk during the monsoon, was repaired after rainfall subsided. Residents expressed satisfaction with the civic body’s response and thanked PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and social activist Jaymala Dhankikar for ensuring the issue was resolved.

The stretch had become a major accident-prone spot, with two-wheeler riders frequently losing balance and motorists forced to slow down abruptly while navigating the damaged road. The problem was aggravated by rainwater flowing across the carriageway due to the absence of an adequate stormwater drainage system.

Local civic activist Jaymala Dhankikar said the repair work was the result of continuous follow-up by residents and civic authorities.

“We consistently raised this issue before the PMC and highlighted the danger it posed to commuters. I thank PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and the concerned officials for responding to our concerns and completing the road repairs. Residents can now travel more safely, but we also hope a permanent stormwater drainage solution is implemented to prevent such damage from recurring,” she said.

Resident Danish Khan welcomed the repairs, saying commuters had been waiting for action for several weeks.

“The road had become extremely dangerous, especially for two-wheeler riders. We are happy that the work has finally been completed. We sincerely thank Jaymala Dhankikar for continuously following up with the authorities and PMC for taking corrective action,” he said.

Resident Hussain Shaikh said the repaired stretch has brought much-needed relief to motorists.

“The damaged road was causing traffic congestion and safety concerns every day. Now vehicles can pass smoothly again. We appreciate the efforts of the PMC and everyone who worked towards resolving this issue,” he said.

Another resident, Sadik Khan, said the repair has restored confidence among commuters.

“Residents had repeatedly raised this issue because public safety was at stake. We are grateful that the authorities listened to our concerns and completed the work. We hope future road projects are better coordinated to avoid similar situations,” he said.

Daljeet Goraya said while the immediate problem has been resolved, long-term infrastructure improvements remain necessary.

“The repair is a welcome step and we thank the PMC for acting on residents’ concerns. However, a proper stormwater drainage system is still essential to ensure the road does not deteriorate again during future monsoons,” he said.

Residents said the repaired road has significantly improved traffic movement along the busy Mohammadwadi–NIBM Annexe corridor, which serves several residential societies, schools and commercial establishments. They expressed hope that the civic administration will continue addressing infrastructure issues promptly and implement permanent engineering solutions to prevent similar problems in the future.
