Government Fixes Retail Prices of 39 Essential Drug Formulations; Medicines for Cancer, Diabetes, HIV Among Those Covered
New Delhi, 10th July 2026: In a move aimed at making healthcare more affordable, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed the retail prices of 39 new drug formulations used to treat a wide range of medical conditions, including cancer, diabetes, hypertension, HIV, bacterial infections and eye disorders. The revised prices have been notified under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO), 2013, and will be applicable across the country.
According to the notification issued by the Department of Pharmaceuticals on July 8, the newly fixed prices cover medicines manufactured and marketed by various pharmaceutical companies. The notified retail prices are exclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST), wherever applicable. Manufacturers will not be allowed to sell these formulations above the prices fixed by the NPPA.
The list includes medicines used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, infections, glaucoma, pain management and cancer. Among them are formulations containing Tenecteplase, Dapagliflozin, Empagliflozin, Sitagliptin, Metformin, Glimepiride, Voglibose, Amoxicillin-Clavulanate, Netarsudil-Latanoprost ophthalmic solution and Nepafenac-Moxifloxacin eye drops.
The retail prices have been fixed under paragraphs 5, 11 and 15 of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013, which empowers the NPPA to regulate the prices of essential and new drug formulations to prevent excessive pricing while ensuring their availability in the market.
The latest notification is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to keep essential medicines affordable for patients while maintaining price uniformity across the pharmaceutical market. The NPPA regularly reviews and notifies prices of medicines covered under the price control mechanism to ensure that patients have access to life-saving drugs at reasonable rates.
