Pune, 11th July 2026: Two people were killed and five others sustained serious injuries after an SUV crashed into a breakdown truck parked on the service lane of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khalapur in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to officials, the accident occurred around 25 kilometers beyond the Madap Tunnel when the SUV, travelling at high speed, rammed into the stationary breakdown vehicle. The force of the collision left the front portion of the SUV completely crushed.

Two male occupants of the SUV died on the spot, while the five other passengers, including a woman, suffered serious injuries. They were rescued by emergency responders and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following the accident, police and rescue teams reached the spot and carried out relief operations. The damaged vehicles were cleared from the road, allowing traffic on the expressway to resume after a brief disruption.

Police have registered the case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Preliminary information suggests the SUV collided with the parked breakdown truck, though authorities are yet to ascertain whether factors such as overspeeding, driver fatigue, or poor visibility played a role in the accident.
