Pune: Three Women Varkaris Killed, Four Injured in Truck Accident on Saswad–Jejuri Road
Saswad, 13th July 2026: Three women Varkaris were killed and four others sustained injuries after a truck associated with a Dindi participating in the annual Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage met with an accident on the Saswad–Jejuri Road in Pune district on Monday.
The accident occurred about 500 metres from the Belsar Toll Naka towards Jejuri, near Hotel Shipdeep Lodging.
According to the Pune Rural Police, the truck belonged to the Dindi of Rangnath Maharaj Pokharbisikar from Loha in Nanded district. It reportedly struck seven women Varkaris from a Dindi based in Kasbedigraj in Sangli district.
Three women died in the accident, while four others were injured. The injured have been admitted to ICU Hospital in Jejuri, where they are undergoing treatment.
Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Sandeep Singh Gill said, “The accident occurred on the Saswad–Jejuri Road near Belsar Toll Naka. Three women Varkaris lost their lives, while four others sustained injuries and have been shifted to ICU Hospital in Jejuri for treatment. Police personnel are at the spot, and the necessary legal action and further investigation are underway.”
Police have reached the accident site and are carrying out further investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. More details are awaited.
