FDA Seizes Suspected Unlicensed Ayurvedic Medicines Worth Rs 50.36 Lakh in Pune Raid
Pune, 13th July 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized a suspected stock of unlicensed Ayurvedic medicines worth approximately ₹50.36 lakh during a raid at Kalpataru Ayurveda in Pune’s Shukrawar Peth.
The action was initiated after FDA drug inspectors received information that bhasma and rasa medicines were allegedly being stored and sold without the required licence. During the inspection, officials found a large quantity of the medicines stored in plastic bags, jars and bottles.
According to the FDA, the seized stock did not carry several mandatory details required under the law, including the batch number, date of manufacture, expiry date, name and address of the manufacturer, and the manufacturing licence number.
During the inspection, the establishment’s proprietor, Rakesh Rajendra Shirke, was asked to produce purchase invoices and documents establishing ownership of the medicines. However, he was unable to furnish the required records, officials said.
The FDA subsequently seized the suspected stock, valued at approximately ₹50.36 lakh. Further investigation is underway to determine the source and legality of the medicines.
