Pune: PMC Superintending Engineer Suspended for Allegedly Pressuring Commissioner Over Transfer
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Pune, 12th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suspended Superintending Engineer Ashit Jadhav of the Water Supply Department for allegedly attempting to pressure Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to cancel his transfer and secure a posting in another department. The suspension order was issued by Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajit Nair, triggering widespread discussion within the civic administration.
Jadhav was transferred from the Road Department to the Water Supply Department last month. However, he reportedly delayed joining his new assignment and instead proceeded on a month-long leave. He resumed duty on July 1 but continued efforts to obtain a transfer to either the Road or Building Department instead of the Water Supply Department.
According to PMC officials, Jadhav allegedly sought to influence the transfer process by exerting political pressure on the Municipal Commissioner. On Saturday (July 11), he reportedly sent a message to Commissioner Ram regarding his transfer. The message was considered inappropriate, prompting the Commissioner to order his immediate suspension and direct Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajit Nair to initiate a departmental inquiry.
The suspension has been carried out under Section 56(2)(f) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, pending the outcome of the departmental inquiry.
The suspension order also imposes several restrictions on Jadhav during the inquiry period. The Chief Engineer of the Water Supply Department has been instructed to complete the departmental investigation at the earliest. Additionally, Jadhav has been barred from leaving the limits of the Pune Municipal Corporation without prior permission from the Municipal Commissioner.
Confirming the action, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said Jadhav had gone on extended leave after his transfer and that several serious complaints had been received against him. “In view of these complaints, orders have been issued to suspend him and initiate a departmental inquiry,” the Commissioner said.
