Pune, 16th July 2026: The Department of Posts’ Pune Postal Region has adopted a bear and a wolf at the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park and Wildlife Research Centre in Katraj as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at supporting wildlife conservation.

Under the initiative, India Post will bear the expenses towards the animals’ food, medical care and maintenance. The adoption fee cheque was handed over by Pune Postmaster General Priti Agarwal to zoo director Rajkumar Jadhav in the presence of Director of Postal Services Abhijit Bansode and other officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Agarwal said the initiative reflected the Department of Posts’ commitment to public service beyond its core functions. “By adopting these animals, we are fulfilling our social responsibility towards nature and wildlife conservation. We hope this encourages other government organisations, corporates and citizens to support such initiatives,” she said.

As part of the programme, India Post also installed promotional hoardings for its flagship welfare schemes, Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and the Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA), inside the zoo premises, which attracts thousands of visitors every day.

Officials said the campaign aims to create awareness about the government’s savings and insurance schemes while leveraging the zoo’s large footfall to reach more citizens.

Senior Superintendent of Post Offices (Pune City West Division) Nitin Yeola, along with postal department officials and zoo authorities, was present at the event.
