Pimpri Chinchwad, 16th July 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has begun transferring the announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those who died in the July 8 Moshi garbage depot tragedy, Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi said on Thursday.

The civic body has already credited Rs 10 lakh to the family of Akshay Sawant (32) after completing the required documentation. As per the distribution, 34% of the amount has been transferred to his wife, Harshada Sawant, while 33% each has been deposited into the accounts of his parents, Reshma Sawant and Raju Sawant, the commissioner said.

The documentation process for the families of the remaining eight victims is being expedited. They include Bhavesh Vani (33), Sunil Korke (40) of Alandi, Sunny Mane (39) of Gandharvanagari, Moshi, Mahesh Kumbhar (33) of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nagesh Gaikwad (26) of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Moshi, Ranjit Patil (22) of Moshi, Rahul Gaikwad (23) of Moshi and Vaman Kasbe (50) of Moshi.

Commissioner Suryawanshi said the compensation would be transferred to their bank accounts immediately after the verification and completion of the necessary documents.

Mayor Ravi Landge said the civic administration had begun implementing the decision to provide immediate financial assistance to the bereaved families and was committed to extending all possible support during this difficult time.

He added that the civic body was also carrying out a comprehensive review of safety measures at all waste management facilities in the city and would implement necessary improvements on priority to prevent such incidents in the future.
